Name, Age, Location. Brittany Bolden. 25. Washington, DC
How did your natural hair journey begin?
My hair journey was actually encouraged by Maiya (one of my high school friends or “@maichickbad” on instagram/twitter) I was transitioning at first while taking care of my mother in 2010 after her brain injury. I went through a major heartbreak during that time and decided to big chop. My hair grew almost to shoulder length and I made the mistake of going to a Dominican salon for a blowout and trim, which resulted in major heat damage. I tried to hold on to my burned ends for quite some time until last month when I semi-big chopped again.
How, better than anyone, do you describe your hair?
My hair has always been strong. I’ve bleached, permed, fried, dyed and laid to the side and never suffered any significant loss. My natural hair is even stronger! I’ve never had a professional “type” my hair, but i believe from what I’ve read that I’m 3c/4a.

Three hair products that I can’t live without: Kinky Curly Knot Today, Shea butter, and olive oil
What is your current hair care/styling regimen? Any special treatments?
My current hair care regimen is to wash every week (2 weeks at the most) with sulfate free shampoo (i.e.-Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo or Kinky Curly Come Clean) using the Kimmaytube method. Scrubbing my scalp using my finger pads, wringing out the shampoo, and adding a bit of conditioner before rinsing.Every once in a while, I’ll do an apple cider vinegar rinse before conditioning to remove product buildup. I use Giovanni deeper moisture and a bit of olive oil and comb through with a wide toothed comb and sit under my Heutiful Hair Steamer. After my steam treatment, I rinse with cold water and add Kinky Curly Knot Today as a leave-in and detangle. I then massage in an oil, like coconut/olive oil and seal with shea butter. For styling after washing and conditioning, I usually do twist outs, or coil outs using a rat tail comb, which last longer. Sleep with a satin bonnet or pillowcase until next wash.
Who are you hair inspirations?
My hair inspirations are Maiya (@maichickbad), African Export (on youtube), Kimmaytube, Napturally85, and of course YOU! Honestly, anyone with a long and healthy head of hair.
