Name, Age, Location.
My name is Jasmine, I’m twenty one years old and I’m from London.

What do you do for a living?
I’m a housing Officer, I work with people who suffer from a variety of mental health problems and also have a history of substance abuse. I help find supported accommodation for them in the community and get them back into employment and training.

Does what you do for a living have any bearing on how you wear your natural?
No, not at all. I am able to wear my hair however I feel best at work which is usually just out and as big as possible.

How did your natural hair journey begin?
My hair journey began when I started college in 2007. I didn’t have a part time job at the time so the little income I did have coming in wasn’t going to be prioritized on my hair and keeping it healthy. So I just thought it would be a better option for me to go back natural as it would be easier to look after in its natural state opposed to it being relaxed. I transitioned for two years and eventually was fully natural in late 2009 and haven’t looked back since.

Are you an advocate for protective styling? What do you like most about it? Has it helped with your hair growth?
I love protective styling and the choice of hairstyles it gives you. I feel it’s a good alternative to switching up your look and trying something new without tampering with your own hair too much or going for something really drastic that can be potentially damaging to the hair.

Personally for me I don’t think it has helped with my hair growth but I do feel it helps when I’m going through a phase of not wanting to deal with my hair at that given time.

I tend not to wear any protective style for any more than three weeks at a time as my scalp is sensitive and requires a lot of attention and also for the fact I start missing my big hair!

How, better than anyone, do you describe your hair?
Full, curly & just out there!! Lol

I love how you rock your new color!! What do you love most about your color? Did you get it professionally done?
Thanks, I love changing the color of my hair it always gives me a new feel for my hair every time and I feel my curls pop more with brighter colors in it. The thing I love most about having color in my hair is that I can wear literally anything and my hair plus color will just give it a more edgy look effortlessly.

I colored my hair myself with box dye which I know isn’t always advisable but I’ve always done it like that and have never encountered any problems or reason to be concerned.

Three hair products you can’t live without. Go.
Cantu Shea Butter, Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Curls cream & Tresemme Naturals Conditioner.

What is your current hair care/styling regimen? Any special treatments?
I cleanse once a week with coconut and sweet almond shampoo, co wash every two days with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner added a few drops of peppermint oil in there too and deep condition with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing conditioner every two weeks.

I use Cantu Shea Butter and Trevor Sorbie Beautiful curls spray for styling and spritz my hair during the day whenever I feel it’s becoming dry with a combination of water and Aloe Vera juice.

I do a protein treatment in my hair every three to four weeks.

I also seal my ends with water, castor, coconut, jojoba and rosemary oils all mixed up together every two to three nights before bed.

There may be some readers who aspire to take the plunge into the natural hair world. Any words of wisdom?
