Oh, Ouidad! Why did you have to put together this clarifying cream shampoo that smells so doggone delicious? And why don’t you have a conditioner to go with it? These are just a few questions I have for Ouidad about this Superfruit Renewel Clarifying Cream Shampoo. For my readers, I know some of you had questions about this product after I posted it on Instagram, so hopefully this review will answer them!

Price Point: $18
Size/Amount: 8.5 fl oz
Who is it for?
“While ideal for those with curls, this hydrating cream formula appeals to all textures experiencing hair dullness and a loss in vibrancy and shine. “
For those who may be new to the blog, my hair is type 4 (for all intents and purposes) and is color treated so products that aid in “loss in vibrancy and shine” always gets me excited.
What does it do?
“A powerful, antioxidant rich blend of whole super fruit acids including açai, blueberry, cranberry, papaya and pomegranate gently detoxifies and rejuvenates dull, lifeless curls to remove buildup, revealing brighter, healthier curls.”
“Banana extract infuses the hair shaft with moisture for an ultra-softening effect and instant boost in hair elasticity and bounce.”
All that fruit talk makes me want to get a smoothie! Talk about packed with sweetness and vitamins!
“Using fingertips, gently massage through wet hair and scalp. Leave in hair for 1-2 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Follow with your preferred Ouidad conditioner. Use weekly or as needed.”
I used this product on very dirty hair (been working out regularly and sweating HARD), so I had to wash twice in order for my scalp to be CLEAN. The shampoo was gentle on my curls as they did not feel stripped of moisture. Also, with it being sulfate free I was worried that it wouldn’t be too sudsy but it still produced an awesome lather. I would say, because it is a clarifying shampoo, only to use it once a week (or once every other week) because it is made to get rid of the buildup. Don’t want to mess up your curls because you’re over clarifying your hair, do you?!
Lastly, I didn’t use a Ouidad conditioner for my follow up, I used Trader Joe’s Nourishing Spa Conditioner, but I did use my Ouidad shower comb to detangle my hair while in the shower if that means anything (and I love it)!
Scents are a WINNER for me – it can make or break a potential relationship with a product. This. SCENT. is. EVERYTHING! To me, it smells like Spring time. It’s light enough to float right past your nose, but prominent enough for you to do a double-take in smell. It’s refreshing to say the least.
It is very much of a cream consistency, not too thick and not too thin. It was easy to get out of the bottle without a lot of shaking. It’s very smooth to the touch. I don’t know why, but it reminds me so much of butter cream icing (without the extreme stickiness)!
To be honest, I don’t know what half of these ingredients even do or even mean! I will say that the ingredients did not stop me from trying out the product and I don’t feel any adverse effects on my hair because of them.
Overall, this product was a good fit for my type 4 hair. I decided to go the organic route and allow my hair to air dry (no styling, no manipulation, no extra product other than Giovanni Direct Leave-In) since the claims on the bottle insisted that my hair would be ultra soft and have great elasticity. It delivered on that part – my curls are poppin’ – literally poppin’ back into place and my hair is incredibly soft.
But pRoy, let’s cut to the chase – is it worth $18 to purchase? While it does an incredible job, $18 is a tad too steep for my pockets, so I’ll definitely have my eyes peeled for a sale of some sort because I would love to have it on hand. For those on the hunt it is sold at Ulta and can be purchased on Ouidad’s website, Ouidad.com.
