Can we say how excited I am about this self love project? And today is just how I needed to start off 2018.
After reading my affirmation, I knew I had to follow through on my plans for today, plans that involved me taking care of something I’ve put off long enough: my hair.
I am confident in my individuality.
How fitting is this affirmation?
Here I am, a Black girl with natural hair that is colored purple (of all color choices) about to re-up on the color because… it’s so ME!
I’ve had many a person come up to me saying, “I wish I could rock this style” and I typically reply “you could if you wanted”. See that’s the thing: if you wanted to do it, you would do it. We tend to do things that WE want to do. And for whatever “reason”, sometimes we don’t. But this is why I am me because I do what I want, especially when it comes to my hair.
And because I love my purple, I am willing to put in the work to maintain it. So I gathered all my products and tools, closed the bathroom door, and got to work.
I snapped this picture of the aftermath: after the lightning, the deep conditioning session, the color application, and the detangling + styling session. You can read about the process here.
The Question of the Day
Additionally, I committed to asking myself a question a day – how fun! I am inviting you all to do the same (if you’d like) by posting these questions on my Facebook page and my Twitter feed daily. I’ll mainly use these questions for self-reflection and either meditate on my answers or journal them. Today’s question reads:
What gave you the most joy today?
Besides spending time with my family, eating healthy all day, and having a clean house to relax in, making time to do my hair brought me the GREATEST joy.
It seemingly takes so much out of me to get my hair done these days so this is a major accomplishment. Now that the hard part is complete, I have to commit myself to maintaining my hair so that I don’t get overwhelmed. I keep telling myself “daily maintenance is the key” so I will have to take it one day at a time.
